Danish unit of Wienerberger lays off more employees as its future looks increasingly uncertain.
{reg} Sønderskov Brickworks will be forced to lay off its entire production team of 16 people this winter. According to a report by jv.dk, the financial crisis and the slowdown in the construction industry has caused the continued dismissal of Brickworks' employees. Demand for bricks has suffered a severe decline since2006.
“It's hard,” Commercial Director Jorgen Hansen from Wienerberger A / S, which operates and owns three brick factories in Denmark told the publication. He adds that the current downturn is very distressing and is one of the worst they have experienced.
Severe financial difficulties are threatening the existence of the brick maker itself making the resumption of work after the winter shut down uncertain. A winter shutdown where the plant shuts down for three to four weeks to maintain furnaces and engines is a normal occurrence among brick makers. But this time, the absence of strong demand and financial trouble has made the resumption of work after the shutdown unlikely. {reg/}
